Translations & Copyrights

BibleXpress prides itself in giving users a variety of translations to pick from.  From conservative to contemporary, users can read and compare multiple translations.  Included in 1.5 and later: ASV, ESV, KJV, LBLA, NASB, NRSV, TM.  I’m negotiating to get the NLT, NIV & NKJV, but those decisions ultimately lie with the copyright holders.

BibleXpress Lite includes no copyrighted translations, but allows users to purchase copyrighted translations.

If you do contact these folks, make sure you are polite, to the point, and include a link to my website so they can find my e-mail address.

NAB - New American Bible.  I am in negotiations for the 2009 revision to the NAB.

NIV - 11/14/08 - Zondervan and IBS have decided not to allow the NIV to be included in BibleXpress.  You can contact them here.  I know a lot of you will be upset about this, but remember the Zondervan holds the copy rights, and it’s their decision.

7/2/09 - Zondervan is considering my re-application for the NIV.

NKJV - 7/6/09 - I’m dropping a letter in the mail to apply for the NKJV.  8/15/09 - Haven’t heard from the NKJV.

NLT - If you would like the New Living Translation, please contact Tyndale at Tyndale, to request they respond to my request for a “non-exclusive worldwide electronic sublicense for the NLT.”

Greek & Hebrew Translations - Greek & Hebrew translations are on hold until if & when the iPhone supports Greek & Hebrew keyboards.  6/9/09 - iPhone OS 3 adds both Greek & Hebrew keyboards.  7/7/09 - Adding the Greek this week.

As soon as we get the details worked out for world-wide distribution, we’ll post more information.  Make your request for more translations to the address on the Support page.  I regret that due to the volume of e-mail, I will be unable to provide personal responses to requests for particular translations.
